STRIDERS CLUB INFO

We encourage all our members new and ‘old’ to come run with us, have fun with us and get to know us. And let us get to know you. We’re really a great bunch of people who have loads of fun whether it be laughing, chatting, battling, or joking on the run, oh yes...and training of course!  For the more serious... We help you get your mileage for those BIG races and our training schedule will nudge you in the right direction to achieve your goals.

The club provides training facilities and information to members participating in the shorter runs right through to Marathons and Ultras such as Comrades, as well as trail running. Many of our members have done Triathlons and would be able you assist you with advice and info regarding training for these events.

Members are encouraged to actively, involve themselves and their families in the various sporting and social events organised by the club. The more you get involved the more rewarding the experience.

We also have a small but well-equipped gym for those recovering from injury or wanting an extra work out before or after the run.

MEMBER COMMUNICATION

Please ensure that we have your current contact details so that we can keep in touch with you and share all club information.  Our preferred means of communication is WhatsApp.  Information is also posted on the notice board at the club and the club's Facebook page.

Once payment is received and confirmed, you will be added to the club’s WhatsApp group where all important info is communicated.  There is also a chat group you can join which is more social and we encourage you to keep it club related.

TRAINING - STRIDERS

Scheduled training sessions are held from the club premises at Beach Road, Nahoon each weekday evening, Monday-Thursday at 17h30. Fridays at 17h00.

Monday 17h30  Rest or Recovery run 8-10km
Tuesday 17h00  Astron Energy Time Trial - 5km / 8km
Wednesday 17h30  Midweek run 10-14kms
Thursday 17h30    Speed work / Hill Work Session
Friday 17h00 Touch the Wall.
Sunday    5h30 Group (pace of under 6.30 minutes a km)
  5h30 Group (pace of under 6.30 minutes a km)

 

The long run starts from Oxford Striders unless otherwise communicated - Long-Distance Training 20-50kms

If you join the long run, please ensure you are able to run the distance indicated for the run.

You are assisted on these runs with water, coke, potatoes, sweets and more, so please only bring a small bag if necessary, as space is limited.

TRAINING - HAPPY FEET

Beginners, Walkers, and Runners There is a session at 17h15 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for beginners comprising mostly beginners who feel pressured by running with the main group.

This group is looked after by Mary-Lou Scholtz.
